Shaukat Khanum and NAMAL students awarded for excellence
Lahore 21st July 2012: Students from the first NAMAL institute batch (4th semester) of Electrical Engineering  won 2nd & 3rd  positions amongst 32 teams in the All Pakistan Robotics competition (ROBO SPRINT) held at CASE Islamabad. The fact that the institution is already producing quality brains signifies that it is on track of becoming one of the best educational institutions of the country.  NAMAL is the first educational institute of Pakistan awarding international degrees to students in a rural area. The institute has been affiliated to the internationally reputed University of Bradford which is also assisting the former by offering training programs for faculty development. Deserving faculty members, who currently don’t have doctoral qualifications, can apply for Bradford’s PHD Program. The popularity of this institution is growing rapidly. This year’s admissions entry test saw large numbers of students participating from all over the Pakistan, 1800 students have contested for 80 seats. 

On the other hand the internationally renowned Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital was presented the Corporate Excellence Award by the Karachi Management Association of Pakistan in May this year. The institute was also awarded for Zakat advertising campaign ‘Kho Na Jai Koi’ in June. Over the years the institute has won numerous awards for excellence. In 2006 World Health Organisation (WHO) invited Imran Khan to Geneva, Switzerland to personally receive the Award for Best Performance in Providing Valuable Services in the Field of Healthcare in Pakistan for Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust and Research Hospital. The institute had the honor of being the first hospital in the country to get this prestigious award.

Establishment of such prestigious institutes is Imran Khan’s most notable achievements in transforming the education and health sectors of Pakistan.

Imran Khan dreams to develop Pakistan’s educational institutions which can be compared with internationally acclaimed institutions. Establishment of an internationally recognized educational institute in rural Mianwali is an unparallel achievement of Imran Khan in terms of realizing his ultimate goal of transforming the education sector of Pakistan. However Imran Khan’s ambitions to transform the educational sector of Pakistan are not limited to the establishment of this world class institute. He envisions establishment of an elaborate Knowledge City with academies for professional qualifications, academic buildings, enterprises, commercial areas and links with industrial partners to promote knowledge transfer at local and national levels. The city would incorporate School of Science and Engineering, School of Medicine, School of Business, School of Humanities, School of Agriculture and Science and a Technology Park.

Moreover, Shaukat Khanum is by far Imran Khan’s most notable achievement in terms of health sector institution building. Successful provision of health facilities to cancer patients without discrimination has been a unique achievement in terms of institutionalizing welfare services.

 Like every single achievement of Imran Khan his vision to transform Pakistan into a welfare state through the aforementioned institutions seems like an impossible task to achieve amidst the crises confronting Pakistan today. Imran Khan however sees these crises as challenges which he is determined to overcome with his nationalistic spirit and passion to see a prosperous Pakistan. There can be no doubt that Imran Khan, Pakistan’s most popular political leader, has a track record for delivering institutions of excellence. Be it organizing the training of a cricket team that helped him win Pakistan its first and only World Cup, or having the vision to deliver  philanthropic projects that have become institutions bringing accolades to the country, Imran khan’s track record of creating institutions of great excellence cannot be negated even by his detractors.

Critics who dismiss Imran’s ambitions as unachievable and naïve should be cautious as the man has realized unimaginable goals in establishing such strong institutions in the country. Unwavering focus, determination, unquestionable integrity and vision for institution building has captured the imagination of the entire nation which now sees hope in face of Imran Khan.
