PTI UK expresses solidarity with the people of Kashmir to commemorate the Kashmir Solidarity Day
(London Feb 05 2011) -
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) UK expresses its solidarity with the
Kashmiri nation on this day 'Kashmir Solidarity Day' which was
observed in the UK, in Pakistan including Azad Jammu & Kashmir as
well as across other countries in the world. The Pakistani community
& friends of Kashmiri people have pledged commitment to continue
diplomatic, moral and political support for the right of Kashmir people
to self determination.
PTI Mr. Imran Khan has clearly stated that Kashmir is an occupied
territory as opposed to a disputed territory and that Kashmiris should
be allowed to decide their future via the ballot. PTI as a
political party is based on the principle of Justice (Insaf) and fully
supports the principled struggle of the people of Kashmir to the right
to self determination which is in line with the United Nations Charter.
must be noted that there can be no peace in the region till the Kashmir
issue is resolved. Since the independence of Pakistan in 1947, there
have been three wars between Pakistan and India over Kashmir and
despite many attempts at dialogue between the two countries, there is
no resolution in sight. Today there are estimated to be between 300,000
and half a million Indian troops occupying Jammu and Kashmir. Since
their struggle, an estimated 50,000 - 100,000 Kashmiris have been
killed by the occupying forces stationed in Kashmir and more than
350,000 people have fled their homes in the valley and live as refugees
in other parts of their own state and country .
a period of time, Indian security forces have picked up a large number
of male population in occupied Kashmir. This human rights' violation
needs to be highlighted to the Human Rights Commission especially by
those living in democratic countries like the UK. We also do not have
any clear indication on David Cameron's stand on the issue of Kashmir .
is incumbent on the international community to help find a solution and
stop further blood shed of innocent victims as well as growing
terrorism. Although President Obama had recognized the Kashmir issue
as a major cause of contention between India and Pakistan, no headway
has been made to deal with the situation.
people of Kashmir are a peace loving community however they have been
pushed to their tether - they have taken to militancy in order to be
able to determine their own destiny. The International Security
Council was able to find a resolution for Kosovo & East Timor so
similarly it should be able to fulfill its obligations to the people
of Kashmir. Since there is a large population of Kashmiris settled in
Great Britain & in the US, we expect both these governments to take
a more proactive role in bringing security, peace and integrity to the
region based on the aspirations of the people of Kashmir.
